The Greenville Garden Club welcomes twenty garden clubs from Zone IX of The Garden Club of America March 27-29, 2012. Clubs from Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas and three other clubs in Mississippi will participate in meetings and the Delta Blues Flower Show. The public is invited to view the Delta Blues Flower Show March 28 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and March 29 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at the Capps Center in Stoneville. The flower arrangements, botanical embellishments, photography and horticulture display will be spectacular. Also on March 29 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am the public is invited to attend the Horticulture Seminar featuring speaker Dr. Douglas Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home and speaking on "Maintaining Curb Appeal With Native Plants". Tyrone Davis (May 4, 1938 – February 9, 2005, born Tyrone Fettson,] was a leading American soul singer with a distinctive style, recording a long list of hit records over a period of more than 20 years. He had three no. 1 hits on the Billboard R&B chart: "Can I Change My Mind" (1968), ""Turn Back The Hands Of Time"" (1970), and "Turning Point" (1975). He was born in a rural community twenty miles outside of Greenville, Mississippi[ to Willie Branch and Ora Lee Jones. He moved with his father to Saginaw, Michigan, before relocating to Chicago in 1959. Working as a valet/chauffeur for blues singer Freddie King, he started singing in local clubs where he was discovered. Come and join the Mississippi Blues Trail as they partner with the Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau to honor Tyrone Davis with a blues marker unveiling in downtown, Leland, MS, 409 North Main Street at 4pm.
