1-800-467-3582 • 662-334-2711

The Downtown Greenville historic district stretches from Highway 82, through downtown, and ends at the Mississippi River Levee. This area is rich with fascinating historic sites and local attractions; a wonderful combination for a leisurely stroll. Begin your Downtown Walking Tour at the Greenville-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau- historic in its own right- located in the Walnut Street Entertainment District. Built in the 1920’s, this building was the original Dixie Division National Guard Headquarters and is a Mississippi Landmark. It’s survived three wars and a flood and is named after Lieutenant Louis M. Nicholson, Jr. of Greenville, killed in action in Romania during World War II. He was laid to rest in the Historic Greenville Cemetery in 1949. His pallbearers included such luminaries as Shelby Foote, General A.G. Paxton, and Dr. John Archer. You will then learn about landmark buildings including the former C&G Railroad Depot and Levee Board Complex, the historic offices of the Delta Democrat Times, Cotton Row, and the First National Bank Building.
